Unfortunately there are a few types of documents that either I personally cannot notarize, due to language limitations, or that are prohibited from notarization by the federal or District of Columbia governments.
I cannot notarize documents that are written in languages other than English. There are District of Columbia notaries who are able to notarize documents in other languages. You should contact the Office of Notary Commissions and Authentications for a list of notaries with foreign language qualifications.
In the District of Columbia, we cannot notarize birth or death certificates.
If your school document (original or copy) is from a DC Public School, it cannot be notarized.
If your document (original or copy) is from a DC Public Charter School or a primary or higher educational institution outside of the District, it can be notarized.
Immigration and naturalization forms (originals or copies) cannot be notarized.
Copies of passports and FBI background checks may be notarized.
